Microsoft HoloLens   Active The headset display is connected to an adjustable cushioned inner band that can tilt the HoloLens up and down, as well as backward and forwards. There is also an adjustable wheel at the back of the headband to secure it. The camera and processors for the HoloLens are situated in the front of the headset and provide an even distribution of weight. AECOM and Trimble Use Mixed-Reality Technology for Engineering and Construction   Active San Jose, CA-based Trimble and Los Angeles-based AECOM announced this week that they are collaborating on the "world’s first use" of Microsoft HoloLens “mixed-reality” technology for the engineering and construction industry. AECOM says it has launched a pilot program with Trimble to apply the technology to projects on three continents. Through a lightweight headset, HoloLens technology adds holograms of 3D objects into a user’s view, allowing interaction with these virtual objects as if they were present. Google reportedly working on headset that mixes augmented and virtual reality   Active According to sources who spoke with Engadget, the company is moving ahead with a dedicated headset that won’t require the use of a mobile phone or computer to function. Engadget says while the headset has a screen, its feature may lean more on augmented reality. It’s not clear what that would look like yet, but it could mean the device is closer to Microsoft’s HoloLens than something like the Oculus Rift. According to Recode, the original device had been designed to compete with other standalone gaming VR devices, but noted that the company had other hardware projects in development.

Around 90% of what we see and do is retained, which is something that has always been missing from education; students do not retain as much information if they are just reading a textbook compared to having more real applications of what they’re learning. Which is why VR and AR in education are so beneficial; these technologies engage students in a completely new way which is more fun and engaging for them, and it increases retention. Several companies are currently working on innovations in this space; and the work we’ve seen so far is surely a good sign of things to come.
